Keir’s new single, “Blood In The Water” documents the most brutal of breakup experiences. “It was particularly painful and during the first lockdown,” the artist explains. “I wrote [the song] after I had come to terms with the world ending.” The apocalyptic outcomes he braced himself for perhaps explain the scale of “Blood In The Water”, with its vivid storytelling and tangible emotion brought to life by metaphors of degradation. “Cause I’ve been waiting for someone like you, but nothing ever gets close,” he pleas and continues: “I don’t wanna show that I’ve never been down this low.”
The artist dropped his debut single in 2016 and since has provided a run of commanding releases, that seem to point to an inevitable destination, and that’s to a future canon of musical greats. With a cynical but astute gaze on the world and musical talent in abundance, it’s only a matter of time until he’s regarded in the same realm as figures like Beck or Prince.
