LUX LYALL – “DRAW BLOOD”

Brimming with haunting harmonies and seductive melodies, Lux Lyall’s “Draw Blood” touches on a darker subject matter. Written as a brutally honest and accurate representation of the reality faced by women in abusive relationships, Lyall’s ballad doesn’t shy away from the seriousness of the subject. The artist asks “Is it still love ‘til he draws blood? Is that when you’ve finally had enough?”, discussing her experiences with raw emotion and candid vulnerability.

Inspired by the artist’s first-hand experience, the track has notes of ’90s sounds, the combination of blues strings and soul base drums adding gravity to the melody. Calling to mind the likes of Hole and The Bad Seeds, Lyall paints herself as a storyteller, recounting her own history. “‘Draw Blood’ is actually about multiple things. A few years ago I was finally open with my therapist about an assault” she explains, the lyrics coming to her while stuck in another stifling relationship. Rather than surrender, Lyall channelled her anger into songwriting, crafting hauntingly beautiful tracks that tackle a sensitive subject with sensitivity and poignancy.Head below to listen to Lux Lyall’s unique sound…
