Bilk Return With Raucous New Single “On It” Ahead of Upcoming Album Essex, Drugs and Rock and Roll
Bilk are crashing back onto the radar with their latest single On It, a rowdy, tongue-in-cheek ode to chaotic nights out. The track arrives in the run-up to their sophomore album, Essex, Drugs and Rock and Roll, due out January 24th.
Their self-titled debut leaned heavily into the spirit of mid-2000s indie garage rock, drawing clear influence from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Jamie T, and The Streets. But with On It—and lead single F Up, which dropped in August—the band is steering into punkier territory, all while keeping indie rock at the heart of their sound.
The verses roll in with minimal drums and a moody yet infectious bassline, laying the foundation for frontman Sol Abraham’s unmistakable swagger. Delivered in his trademark half-sung, half-spoken style, he narrates a blurry night out in all its messy glory—from the excitement of getting ready and strutting out in shades, to the inevitable morning comedown and bathroom dash. It’s a story anyone who’s been young, broke, and chasing a buzz will find all too familiar.
The chorus kicks the energy up a notch with a simple but effective rallying cry: “get on it.” It’s straightforward, sure, but that’s exactly what makes it stick—especially when paired with the no-frills, high-octane vibe Bilk are so good at. Expect this one to go off in mosh pits when they take it on tour across the UK and Europe in February and March next year.
While Essex, Drugs and Rock and Roll wears its local roots proudly in the title, On It tells a story that feels universal. The pursuit of cheap thrills, nights that blur into mornings, and the thrill of youthful chaos—these are experiences shared by partygoers everywhere. And though that kind of reckless hedonism might not be as fashionable as it once was, it’s refreshing to hear a young band embrace it unapologetically. Bilk aren’t trying to be anything they’re not. They’re just telling it like it is—and having a blast doing it.
