Dan Hubbard’s Vol 1: Letting Go opens like a long conversation with someone you haven’t talked to in a while, the kind that starts slow but pulls you in before you even realize it. This six-song EP marks his tenth studio project and the first half of a two-part release, and you can hear right away that he’s in a different headspace. There’s less pressure in the air and more trust in his own instincts.

He approached these songs with a mindset of letting go of expectations, even admitting he stopped worrying about outside opinions and focused on what felt honest in the moment. That shift gives the EP a natural flow. It moves between soulful touches, subtle R&B colors, pop warmth, and the Americana foundation that has been part of his sound for years. Nothing feels forced or overworked. It sounds like a songwriter who knows who he is and is finally comfortable writing from that place.

“Remember” opens with a quiet confidence, reflecting on growth and perspective without sounding heavy. “Sad Eyes” brings a lighter energy while still holding on to that emotional core. “Open Up” sits at the center of the project, sparked by a simple thought about life having more than one path, and it turns into something bigger about empathy and connection. The line about loving someone enough to let them go ties everything together in a way that feels personal but relatable.

The closing track, “These Waters”, is easily one of the most intimate moments, built around a family memory on the Oregon coast and layered with real audio from that day. It gives the EP a sense of closure that lingers after the final note fades.

After two decades and multiple albums, Hubbard sounds grounded and fully himself here. Follow Dan Hubbard on social media and Spotify to stay updated on what he shares next.
