Dirty Blonde – ‘Northern Twang’

Dirty Blonde Make a Fierce Comeback with Gritty New Single ‘Northern Twang’

Manchester’s own Dirty Blonde, the electrifying female alternative-rock duo, are back with a vengeance on their latest single, Northern Twang—and it’s a powerful reminder of why they’re one of the UK’s most thrilling emerging acts.

Bursting onto the scene with their acclaimed debut EP Favourite Record, Dirty Blonde quickly caught the attention of tastemakers at BBC Radio 1, Radio X, and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, while earning placements on major Spotify playlists. Their bold sound and raw authenticity have helped them carve out a strong presence in the UK live circuit, with over 20 performances across summer 2024, including standout sets at the Isle of Wight Festival and The Great Escape. They’ve even shared stages with icons like Frank Carter and members of the Sex Pistols—no small feat for a band still early in their journey.

Northern Twang is especially significant for the duo, as it’s the first track they ever wrote together—and it delivers in spades. Brimming with swagger, explosive riffs, and bluesy grit, the track showcases their Kings of Leon influence while remaining unmistakably their own. The production is slick, the hooks are sharp, and the emotion is unfiltered.

Lyrically, the song explores the denial and disillusionment that comes with falling for the wrong person—turning a blind eye to red flags simply because the heart wants what it wants. Lines like “He’s the devil and his mates as well” capture the intense frustration of being emotionally ensnared, while verses such as “northern twangs on top of husky tones” and “he’s got flawless skin laced on wicked bones” paint a vivid picture of attraction masking toxicity.

The accompanying music video matches the track’s attitude perfectly, with Allis Mackay and Hayley Tait decked out in leather and leopard print, performing against a striking red backdrop. It signals a bold new chapter for Dirty Blonde—one that’s both visually and sonically elevated.

Northern Twang leads the charge for a larger body of work expected later this year. If this track is anything to go by, Dirty Blonde are ready to shake things up in a big way. Keep your eyes (and ears) on them—they’re just getting started.
