The Lumineers – ‘Same Old Song’

The Lumineers Announce New Album Automatic and Release Stirring New Single “Same Old Song”

Alternative folk-rock trailblazers The Lumineers are back with the announcement of their fifth studio album, Automatic, set to arrive on February 14 via Dualtone. The duo—Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites—have carved out a formidable presence in the music world over the past two decades, known for anthemic hits like “Ho Hey” and “Ophelia.” Now, after 20 years of songwriting, the two-time GRAMMY® nominees are diving deeper into modern anxieties with a record Schultz says “explores some of the absurdities of the modern world,” from blurred realities to overstimulation and emotional numbness. Recorded in under a month, Automatic is, in Schultz’s words, “very much of this era.”

The first glimpse of the new record comes in the form of “Same Old Song”—a driving, emotionally raw single that channels both urgency and introspection. Built on a propulsive rhythm, the track pairs stark, metaphor-laden lyrics with Schultz’s signature vocals. A standout line, “The party has been done for hours, I’m laying on bathroom tile spilling all my guts below the throne,” transforms a moment of post-party disarray into a metaphor for vulnerability and emotional release.

Accompanying the track is a visually compelling music video directed by Anaïs LaRocca. The video features Schultz and Fraites performing in front of a projection screen that plays VHS-style home video scenes, evoking a sense of memory, nostalgia, and internal reflection. The lo-fi aesthetic mirrors the song’s raw lyricism and gives fans a poignant visual entry point into the band’s psyche.

Looking ahead, The Lumineers have a busy year planned. Alongside the album release, the band is embarking on a major EU/UK headline tour, kicking off April 23 in Austria and moving through the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, France, the UK, Ireland, and beyond. They’re also slated to appear at several major festivals throughout 2025.

Beyond their music, The Lumineers remain active in advocacy work, championing causes such as environmental sustainability, human rights, and youth mental health. With Automatic on the horizon, a packed tour schedule, and a continued commitment to meaningful social impact, The Lumineers are not only evolving their sound—they’re reinforcing a legacy defined by artistry, empathy, and enduring influence.
