I’ll start by saying, Sem Palavras is one of those albums you don’t just hear, you live it in small moments. Grecco Buratto’s second solo venture, released October 9, 2023, is a set of ten instrumental guitar pieces that feel like quiet confessions.
From the very first track, “Last Days”, there’s a sense of openness. The guitar holds itself unguarded, each note stretching into space like it’s letting itself breathe. I found myself leaning forward, letting the song wash over me rather than trying to dissect it. The transitions between tracks are gentle, not sharp. It’s a flow, not a series of singles demanding attention.
There are moments when the simplicity feels bold. Take “Lullaby to Gabriela”. It’s tender without being sweet, intimate without being cloying. Or “The Glimpse of a Fleeting Moment”, where his strings whisper and your mind drifts to memory. In “Contemplation”, there’s space to pause, a place that almost invites silence in between the notes. One thing that really stands out is how connected this album feels to Grecco’s poetic side. He published a book of poems, Só Palavras, alongside this release, and Sem Palavras feels like the musical echo of that writing. It’s less about describing and more about evoking. It’s an album that trusts you to feel rather than to follow.
Sometimes the dynamics sneak in quietly. A strum becomes firmer, or a pause lingers before returning to a softer touch. You hear the hands on strings, the small shifts. I found myself closing my eyes, letting the minimalism carry me. It doesn’t demand that you keep up. It invites you to slow down. Because it’s all instrumental, the album avoids obvious narrative, but that’s part of its charm. It doesn’t explain, but it stays present. At ten tracks and about 37 minutes, it’s compact but full. It feels intentional. There’s no filler, only what matters in that moment.
If you like music that lets you lose time, or that makes you notice small shifts in mood, Sem Palavras will reward you. It’s not grand in the sense of volume, but it’s grand in patience. It grew on me with each listen, revealing more each time.
