Véyah’s is one of those stories that could make you wonder what on earth you’ve been doing with your life, in comparison to the prodigious star of tomorrow. At just 18 years old, the Indian-born, US-raised singer-songwriter has the prestigious support of Jay Sean behind her, has somersaulted to TikTok stardom, and now cooked up her debut single alongside 75 million-selling songwriter, Jeremy Skaller and storied producer, Sean Cook. The result, “Almost” is the blissful, break-up R&B track of our dreams, that sees her showcase her molten vocals and effortless songwriting.
Catching the attention of Jay Sean at the beginning of the pandemic, Véyah, still only a junior in high-school had taken over TikTok with her covers of South Asian and Hindi classics. “Véyah is a once-in-a-lifetime talent,” Sean explains. “Her voice is absolutely insane, whether she is singing pop, R&B or Hindi classics…she’s just that good.” The pop star, who for much of the ‘00s and ‘10s was the biggest South-Asian artist in the world, introduced Véyah to his team of collaborators and whilst “Almost” is our first taste of their work together, it looks set only to be the first in a lengthy run of assaults at global charts.
